The Anindilyakwa Future Leaders Program is in full swing after the success of the program launch in June and the excitement of having living legend Adam Goodes visit the Groote Eylandt community.

The journey so far

Twelve deadly leaders came together for the second face-to face block of the course. As part of the Certificate IV in Indigenous Leadership and Governance course, the group shared their traditional knowledge with a group of guests including AILC Trainer Timmy Duggan and Program Leader Sonia Briston.

Students also demonstrated how to engage in self-care on Country, their deep connection to land and how to use storytelling to take their mind off issues and difficulties. Students also demonstrated how their ancestors provided leadership on Country over thousands of years.

The topics covered in this face-to-face block were Leadership styles, concepts and scenarios with a specific focus on where-to after the mine closes. The course has been developed in collaboration with the Anindilyakwa and is delivered in Groote Eylandt communities.

So far, it has been a great learning experience for everyone involved - trainers included!
