The Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre’s Leading the Way Scholarship Program is gaining in popularity and demand.  This is evident from the large number of quality applicants applying each year as well as organisations and businesses keen to contribute to improving the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, as Scholarship Sponsors. 

Aligned to the Scholarships are the AILC’s nationally recognised and accredited courses:

• Certificate IV in Indigenous Leadership (10786NAT)
• Certificate II in Indigenous Leadership (10785NAT)

In 2023, 16 Leading the Way Scholarships were awarded to applicants from remote, rural, regional, and urban communities.  The scholarships were made possible by the generous support of the Dominos Give for Good program and Calleo Indigenous.

Message from a scholarship graduate

Cecilia McKenzie recently completed the scholarship program and had this to say about her experience:

“The scholarship has assisted me extensively.  As a single mother I would not have personally been able to fund the Certificate IV in Indigenous Leadership and therefore without the assistance of this scholarship I would not have been able to engage with the opportunity”, she said.

“The training was fantastic! The best part being engaging with other Aboriginal students across Australia and having their support and empowerment.  The networking element of the course was hands down the best part of the course!  I couldn’t recommend this leadership program more highly to other Aboriginal people. I have certainly developed confidence in myself and my capacity to lead,” concluded Cecilia.

Currently, the number of applicants far outweighs the Scholarship places available.  We are seeking additional support from sponsors to help us deliver more training to emerging Indigenous leaders across Australia.
