2020 continues to be an interesting year!  And, one that has presented many opportunities for the AILC to be innovative.

Over the past month we’ve continued to build our online offerings.  The Introduction to Indigenous Leadership course is now being run as a series of four x one hour online sessions.  And, in July we commenced our Webinar Wednesday series,  held on the second Wednesday of each month. The aim of Webinar Wednesdays is to profile Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from across the country doing extraordinary things in their communities.

This month we kicked off the series with Kieran Chilcott, CEO of Kalwun Development Corporation (pictured with me in the header image).  Kieran is a very inspirational young man.  If you missed the live webinar, you can watch the recording here

In August edition of Webinar Wednesdays we will be joined by Melissa Drummond-Anderson, one of the driving forces behind Blaq Diamonds Women’s Empowerment Program. This is a free event, but you will need to book your place here.

The AILC team has been working hard converting our accredited training courseware for virtual delivery with the first of our Certificate II and Certifiicate IV in Indigenous Leadership courses kicking off in August 2020. I’m looking forward to watching the leadership journeys of our students and joining in on the sessions where I can.  Our NT and QLD Youth Leadership Programs are currently underway and soon we’ll have programs for young people commencing in Western Australia and South Australia.

I’d also like to do a shout out to the AILC Board, led by Cath Brokenbrough who all continue to encourage us and support the work of the AILC during these trying times.  In July we also welcomed a new board member - Benny Eggmolese, a Kurawali and Mbarbaram Man.  Benny is not only a business owner and entrepreneur, he is also an accomplished and well respected comedian. We look forward to his contribution.

Finally, my monthly update would not be complete without a quote.

So in the words of Dr Suess:  “Why fit in when you were born to stand out”.

At the AILC we strive to support you all and help you stand out!
